Claiming your Belovedness: Henri Nouwen Retreat-Workshop at Whirlow Grange Spirituality Centre and Conference Centre

Friday 18th Feb 4pm-4.45pm arrival until Sunday 20th Feb 3pm

How is it that so few of us truly feel ourselves to be deeply loved and lovable? If love is the core word of the Christian story, how can we get past or underneath the wounds and the vulnerabilities that seem to inhibit our feeling of being ‘the beloved’? This retreat-workshop will explore these questions in the company of one of the finest Christian characters of the 20th century.

Philip Roderick had the privilege of interviewing Henri before his death and the questions and answers on the tape/CD of that conversation will form the core element of this retreat -workshop. The interview, fully transcribed in Philip’s book “Beloved: Henri Nouwen in conversation” (the book includes the CD and is on sale at Whirlow, from Amazon and all good bookshops!) will provide the raw material for us to work on and apply to our own lives.

Henri’s vulnerability, deep compassion and everyday wisdom will undoubtedly connect with you profoundly. Allow the gentleness and strength of the Holy Spirit to guide you in this Whirlow weekend. Find access to resource and a strengthening of your resourcefulness for the next stage of your journey.

The dulcet tones and challenging insights of the internationally renowned spiritual guide and author, Henri Nouwen, will focus upon themes ranging from ‘Solitude’ to ‘Too little time or too much’; from ‘Light in the darkness’ to ‘Desiring God, Resisting God’.

Philip Roderick is a founder member of the co-ordinating group that has recently launched the Henri Nouwen Society in the UK. Philip is fascinated by parable and by personal story as vehicles for communicating grace and wisdom. He is Bishop’s Adviser in Spirituality in the Diocese of Sheffield and Chaplain to Whirlow Grange. Philip is also Director of The Quiet Garden Movement.
